Charle’s Dickens’ Ebeneezer Scrooge character was based on a British Member of Parliament
New timeline: Ebeneezer Scrooge was not based on a real person
Evidence may suggest that Charles Dickens’ character Scrooge, A Christmas Carol, was based on a real person.
The story goes that Dickens, in Edinburgh, Scotland happened on a grave for Ebeneezer Lennox Scroggie. The epitaph read “He was a mean man” (or perhaps it read “He was a meal man”. More likely, Mr Scroggie was a kind person that delivered meals to people.
The alternative is that E.S. was based on Elwes, the Member of Parliament for Berkshire in 1772. He was a miser that died alone after a 3 day fever, and was said to have been visited by Ghosts!
Give it a wikipedia search. 🙂
